Post of Sale (POS) Terminal at the ready.

by Rosalie Barber, Gift Shop Chair

The Gift Shop at St. Bernards volunteers are excited about the new Point of Sale (POS) system that went into service on Sunday, March 1. Purchased and operated by St. Bernards Auxiliary volunteers, the POS system will help continue the expansion and growth of this important service area of the Auxiliary.

What is a POS system? It is a computer-based system that records sales as they occur. It will reduce headaches such as inventory that does not match expectations, sales that go unrecorded, and staff time wasted chasing mistakes instead of helping customers.

One neat feature of this system is that it can put a customer on hold while another is serviced. It will keep inventory, trend sales, help track theft, automate mark downs, and track them accurately.

Staff and volunteers spent several days entering the inventory into the system and training on the new system.  Hardware, software and a card scanner for the system cost $4,090.59 which was only 20% of the cost of similar systems. St. Bernards Medical Center provided a laser printer to complete the system. Learn more about The Gift Shop here.
